So I decided to give up caffeine for lent. Whoa – bad choice. I’ m a mountain dew junkie and now I’m stuck with just water or ginger ale or my saving grace – sunkist. I was like if my boy Jesus can kick it in the desert for 40 days, I think I can chill out with the soda. I forgot that it includes coffee, cappuccinos, and tea! SWEET TEA. I just discovered my love of sweet tea too. I know it’s crazy that a South Carolinian just discovered sweet tea, but it wasn’t my thing and now it TOTALLY is. Chocolate has it in it too! I found that out too late. Like a good elephant I meant what I said and I said what I meant so I’m going to stick through it.
I have found that there are a TON of decaffeinated products out there. New England decaf hazelnut coffee? Score. My beloved fresca? Awesome. Tazo refresh peppermint tea? Hallelujah!
Did you know that you aren’t allowed to say hallelujah until the end of lent. Who knew? I say that junk all the time when I feel like celebratin’. All of this is pretty funny since I’m not catholic. I do think it’s a pretty cool thing to test your willpower, no matter what your religious affiliation.
Wikipedia is pretty brilliant when it comes to Lent. Did you know the veil the cross during lent? I’m not sure why but that’s pretty cool. Each Sunday doesn’t count as part of the 40 because they are supposed to be mini Easters. In ancient times, you weren’t allowed to eat meat! Too bad they didn’t have caffeine back then.
(side note: I also decided to give up complaining for lent. Guess that one didn’t work out too well. )

What is going on with me and movies about teenage pregnancy? First Juno. Now this. If I start watching Zoey 101 – somebody stage an intervention.
There is something quite endearing about a 16 year old with a heart of gold. Decisions – diapers, birth, prom? I love all of it. I think oxygen is having a marathon lately though which is troubling. Is it the news of Jamie Lynn? Hollywood is quite baby crazy after all. Angelina is practically a baby factory. Christina, Nicole, Gwen, JLO? I can’t take it!
WAIT! “Where the Heart is” is coming on lifetime!!

I couldn’t figure out why I was so shocked this week when I found out about Heath Ledger’s passing. He was just an actor. One of many in Hollywood. But yet, I kept reading. I actually got really upset when I heard the heartbreaking words his family left him with.
When anyone young dies, it’s troubling. The ones you see coming due to drug abuse, instability, etc. are easier to swallow. What I find almost impossible to shake, is when a good person dies – at any age.
The media is desperately searching for sordid reasons why died. Drugs, addiction, suicide, you name it. I guess the world will find out soon enough. But when it all comes down to it, a guy was tired, had jet lag, and took too many sleeping pills. Nothing salacious. Nothing sordid. He was just a good guy who had a horrible accident. And not only that, but a good dad. Its nearly impossible these days to find decent people in Hollywood. Everyone is either on drugs, starting drugs, or entering rehab. Very few are in it for the craft. Instead most seek Hollywood for the lifestyle. You never saw Heath Ledger in the news for scandal. Let’s let this guy actually rest in peace, and more importantly, let his family grieve in private. Photographers camping out at the funeral home to get the shot of Michelle Williams and little Matilda are beyond distasteful. They are disgusting.
You were a good actor, Heath. A good guy. And a great dad. Rest in peace.
